The Vida Verde Cosiguina farm sits beside the village of El Rosario. Part of the story of the farm is what it does for the people who live around it.
Working with a foundation
Vida Verde Agroforestry works with the Help Them Help Themselves Foundation, a charitable organization started by the Hiebert family to help people in need have better shelter, education and healthcare. The Foundation has worked in Nicaragua and other Central American countries for over a decade. Vida Verde reports that it has provided homes, schools and medical clinics, and organized medical and dental missions.
Local jobs and training
The farm provides employment in a remote area where jobs are scarce. Employees are trained in avocado and teak care by one of the farm’s botanists, which means work and education in a growing industry.
Funds from Harvest Rights purchases
According to Vida Verde, a portion of each Harvest Rights purchase supports these community efforts. Rather than a one-off grant, the company says it helps local people set up cryptocurrency wallets and sends part of the funds directly to those wallets.
Animals too
Vida Verde also supports spay and neuter clinics and sea turtle sanctuaries. Read more in Saving the Giant Sea Turtles.
